For long time the spoken and written form of Chinese have been taught at the same time to beginners. But this has been approved to be very difficult because Chinese characters can not be read phonetically.

Writing should not follow the same method as speaking.

There is one myth puzzles many people: How many characters are enough? Some say 3000, and some say 2000.

There is one very significant study done in 1928 in Shanghai. After counting a running text of over 900,000 characters appearing in various books, periodicals, and other sources, The number of different characters was a little under 4800.

A startling picture the study revealed is: the 400 most frequently used characters comprise 73.1% of the total text. The least frequently used half of all the characters comprise a mere 2.5% of the total text.

The goal is set here: Learn your first 400 most frequently used characters first and you will be amazed on how much you can do with them!

We offer six levels of Chinese Reading and Writing books. Each one covers a set of core characters. The first four levels are compatible with Mandarin Express Intro Level.

All the books don't have either pinyin or English translations. You can not be lazy when learning Chinese Reading and Writing series!
