Why learn spoken form separate from
written form
Different from Roman letters, Chinese
characters can
not be read phonetically. They give less precise or no
pronunciation information, but do give information on meaning. This is the
reason that there are a huge number of characters in Chinese which sound the
same but have different meanings.
This has been a huge problem for
Mandarin learners trying to learn the spoken and written form at the same time.
